High-speed Image Based Experimental Modal Analysis & Open Source Tools

Summer School

We are pleased to announce that the hands-on summer school on open source code for structural dynamics and highs-speed image based experimental modal analysis will take place in July 2019.
A maximum of 20 attendees will be accepted (first-come, first-serve basis).

Preliminary program

  1. Monday, day 1: Introduction to Python & numerical methods Intro to Python, Systems of linear equations, interpolation, approximation, nonlinear equations, differentiation, integration, differential equations 4h of lectures, 4h of hands-on work

  2. Tuesday, day 2: Signal/image processing and experimental setup Basics of signal and image processing within the Python ecosystem 2h of lectures, 6h of hands-on work (3h in the experimental lab)

  3. Wednesday, day 3: Image based modal analysis Basics of the experimental modal analysis in the Python ecosystem, image based modal identification 3h of lectures, 6h of hands-on work (2h in the experimental lab)

  4. Thursday, day 4: Collaboration on open source projects Repositories, Github, package preparation, tests, continuous integration, package distribution 3h of lectures, 5h of hands-on work

Target audience

PhD or final year MSc students working in the field of structural dynamics.

What to expect

An essential part of the school will be the real experimental work and the real coding; we have computers ready if you would not like to use your own.

All attendees will get the complete source code of the summer school. After finishing the course you will be able to perform EMA with a high-speed camera (experiment & numerical analysis).

The course language is English.

Attendees will also get a certificate of attendance.

Prior knowledge

The summer school will heavily depend on the programming language Python. Basic knowledge of Python is expected. The users of Matlab should be able to quickly catch up.

Summer school fee

The summer-school fee is 650€, the early-bird fee is 550€. Fee includes refreshments during breaks.
